Charles Bennica
Moules et Baucels, France · Making since 1988 · Art Knife Invitational
Charles Bennica has been making knives since 1988, working from Moules et Baucels in the south of France. He came to the craft as a young man and entered his first show — the Paris SICAC — in 1990, under the encouragement of Michel Blum. His ascent through the French and international knife world was swift and sustained.
He is best known as a master of the inter-frame folder, having developed his own proprietary locking mechanism: a dovetail-fitted liner component, independently heat-treated, that allows for precise adjustment of hardness and lock engagement — a solution born of dissatisfaction with the standard liner lock. But Bennica began with fixed blades, and hunting knives remain a genuine passion: the same exacting standards applied to a simpler, older form.
He is a member of the Art Knife Invitational. His work is in the hands of collectors worldwide.
“I needed to develop a personal style for my knives — that line which identifies me in today’s custom knife world.”
